The Story Behind My NYC Apartment's Focal Point: "Cosmic"
When it came time to design my NYC apartment, I approached it the same way I’ve helped so many of my interior design clients over the years — by creating a space that simply feels good to live in.
One of the most powerful tools in achieving that is art. The right piece doesn’t just decorate a wall — it sets the mood, shapes the energy, and helps define how you experience your space every single day.
For this space, I chose my painting Cosmic to hang above my sofa as the main focal point. I wanted something bold, uplifting, and vibrant — something that would bring energy and joy into the room the moment I walked in.
Cosmic is a mixed media piece that has a story all its own.It came to life through layers of experimentation, unexpected textures, and intuitive color play. As I worked on it, the painting seemed to open up like a galaxy — full of movement, color, and light — hence the name.
When I was working as an interior design consultant across the tristate area, I often thought of selecting art as a kind of matchmaking process. Every home has its own rhythm, and art becomes the soul of the room. My job was to help clients find that perfect match — a piece that reflected who they were and supported the kind of energy they wanted to live with daily.
In my own home, it was natural to turn to my own work. But whether it's one of my pieces or something by another artist (yes, I own a few!), what matters most is that it resonates personally and elevates the space.
